Beano’s digital product vision is to build the most relevant, most entertaining, most engaging kids’ digital network in the world. As the first step towards that, Beano.com was unleashed into the world of 6-12 year-olds in September 2016 as a completely new, unique and free digital proposition - available via mobile, tablet and desktop - fuelled by the enduring Beano spirit of Big Laughs, Everyday Rebellion and Unlimited Imagination. Everything done at Beano comes under the overall ambition of being the best at understanding these children. As such, audience data and insight is baked in at all points. The audience strategy is designed to ensure that ambition of understanding kids is fulfilled. We need to know what subjects kids are interested in, what they are not interested in, how they use their digital devices and much more. Through an innovative fusion of ethnography and behavioural analytics (combining a nationwide Trendspotters Panel, schools visits, compliant first party data and user testing) we constantly monitor and respond to what our users want. We call it our Beano Brain.
Beano.com has enjoyed a staggering 12 months and surpassed all internal targets for audience growth and engagement. From January 2018 to January 2019, the number of monthly users on Beano.com has increased by 446%. There have been month-on-month user increases in 11 out of the last 12 months. In the UK this led to Beano.com being the fastest growing kids’ website in 2018, with an 185% increase in unique UK individuals coming to the site than 12 months ago.
