The editorial team behind Kitchens Bedrooms & Bathrooms magazine is made up of five people and is part of Taylist Media. The team is responsible for planning, creating and promoting the magazine and works across print, digital and event channels to do so. Each member has had to rapidly and continually diversify in order to keep up with the fast-changing nature of the multi-platform publishing industry. The team consists of the editor, features editor, features writer, sub editor and editorial assistant.
The overall aim for the Kitchens Bedrooms & Bathrooms team is to be recognised for being experts within their field. Rather than being faceless writers/creators behind a brand. They should be called upon for their expertise and be seen as influential figures within the industry. To achieve this, the team features in the magazine alongside their headshots at various intervals, including roundels to offer additional advice or commentary.
We have established a schedule of social media slots for each team member, including a weekly smart home Stories session on Instagram (in recognition of the fast growing trend for the connected home), a Q&A with a renovator on Instagram Live and a weekly Q&A Instagram Live with the editor. Each month when a new issue goes on sale, the team take to Instagram Live and Facebook Live to form a panel discussion of the new issue.
As qualified print journalists, the challenge is the need to diversify. Once a job that was faceless, being front of camera, on audio and social media is part of the role today. We have learned skills in social media management, SEO, video and photography, and make these part of a day-to-day role. As a team of five, we are creating enormous amounts of cross-platform content daily and learning to be multi-media journalists every day.
